The wisdom of the creation of man

Have you ever wondered about the creation of the universe?

The wisdom of the creation of man

Why were we created?

Onwards towards God
“There is a steady, ongoing, never-slackening fight against skepticism and dogmatism, against unbelief and superstition, which religion and science together wage. The directing watchword in this struggle runs from the remotest past to the distant future: ‘Onwards towards God!’ ”

The human being to whom Allah has made everything in the universe subservient and who He has honored above all of the other creatures was created by Allah for a great wisdom, because He is exalted above any absurdity or falsehood. Allah says: {190. Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding. 191. Those who remember Allâh (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): “Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.}(Âl-’Imrân:190-191)

Allah also says about the unbelievers bad assumptions: {And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the consideration of those who disbelieve! Then woe to those who disbelieve (in Islâmic Monotheism) from the Fire!}(Sâd:27)

“Man cannot imagine the beginning or the continuation of life without there being a dominant creative power, and I believe that philosophers in their philosophical researches about life have paid no attention to the compelling proof contained in the order that controls this universe.”

Allah did not create man to eat and drink and reproduce, otherwise he would be similar to animals. Rather, the Almighty has honored human beings and certainly blessed them over many of those whom He created, but most of the people refuse the truth and accept nothing but disbelief. They are ignorant of or deny the true wisdom that lies behind their creation, and they direct all their concern to enjoying worldly desires. The life of such people is similar to that of the beasts; in fact they are even worse. Allah says: {while those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as cattle eat, and the Fire will be their abode}(Muhammad:12)

He also says: {Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know!}(Al-Hijr:3)

The Almighty says: {And surely, We have created many of the jinns and mankind for Hell. They have hearts wherewith they understand not, they have eyes wherewith they see not, and they have ears wherewith they hear not (the truth). They are like cattle, nay even more astray; those! They are the heedless ones.}(Al-A’râf:179)

People firmly believe that their limbs and senses were created for a reason. So the eye is used for seeing, the ear for hearing, and so on…Could it be that our limbs and senses were created for a reason and we ourselves were created in vain?! Or is it that man does not accept to respond to his Creator when He tells him the wisdom in creating him?!

Why did Allah create us? Why did He honor us and make everything subservient to us? Allah tells us the answer. The Almighty says: {And I (Allâh) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone).}(Az-Zâriyât:56)

He also says: {1. Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things. 2. Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving{ (Al-Mulk:1-2)

It is well-known to sensible people that he who makes something is the most knowledgeable about the reason for making that thing. Allah is the best example. It is He Who created human beings. He knows the wisdom that lies in creating them, and such worship (referred to in Surah Az-Zâriyât) is a concept which is broader than just praying and fasting. Rather, worship includes the population and the establishment of a righteous life in the whole universe. Allah says: {He brought you forth from the earth and settled you therein, then ask forgiveness of Him and turn to Him in repentance.}(Hûd:61)

And worship encompasses the entire life of a human being. Allah says: {162. Say (O Muhammad, pbuh): “Verily, my Salât (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allâh, the Lord of the ‘Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists).” 163. “He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.}(Al-An’âm:162-163)

An honorable hadeeth

Worship is a Comprehensive Concept
“The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ‘If the Last Hour comes while one of you has a palm seedling in his hand which he can plant before it (the hour) falls, let him plant it.’” (Narrated by Musnad Ahmad) “They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, when one of us fulfills his carnal desire will he have some reward for that?’ He (peace be upon him) said, ‘Do you not see that if he were to act upon it [his desire] in an unlawful manner then he would be deserving of punishment? Likewise, if he were to act upon it in a lawful manner then he will be deserving of a reward.’” (Narrated by Muslim)

Why does man abandon what he has been created for?!!

If all of this universe is subservient to you, if the miracles and signs of this universe are evidences before your eyes and serve as a witness that there is no god but Allah alone, and if you know that your resurrection is a task that is easier for Allah than creating the heavens and the earth; if you know that He created you in the best form, and honored you greatly, and made the entire universe subservient to you, then what on earth has made you careless concerning your Lord, the Most Gracious One?! The Exalted says: {6. O man! What has made you careless concerning your Lord, the Most Generous? 7. Who created you, fashioned you perfectly, and gave you due proportion; 8. In whatever form He willed, He put you together}(Al-Infitâr: 6-8)

You will eventually meet your Lord. Allah Almighty says: {6. O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 7. Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 8. He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 9. And will return to his family in joy! 10. But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 11. He will invoke (his) destruction, 12. And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning}(Al-Inshiqâq:6-12)

Proceed then on the road to happiness in this world and the Hereafter by living according to the wisdom behind your creation. It is then that you will be satisfied with your life, and feel content and be happy when you meet your Lord after death.

The whole universe also worships its Lord, for all creatures glorify and praise the Lord. The Almighty said: {Whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth glorifies Allâh.}(Al-Jumu’ah:1)

and they also bow to His greatness. The Exalted and Most Praised says: {See you not that to Allâh prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and Ad-Dawâb (moving living creatures, beasts, etc.), and many of mankind? But there are many (men) on whom the punishment is justified.}(Al-Hajj:18)

Will they not ponder?!
“I am surprised at those who look to the sky and watch the grandeur of the creation and then do not believe in God.”

Even these organisms pray to their Lord in a way that is suitable for them. Allah Almighty says: {See you not (O Muhammad, pbuh) that Allâh, He it is Whom glorify whosoever is in the heavens and the earth, and the birds with wings out-spread (in their flight). Of each one He (Allâh) knows indeed his Salât (prayer) and his glorification, [or everyone knows his Salât (prayer) and his glorification]}(An-Nûr:41)

Does it then befit you to stay away from this majestic scene and consequently be disgraced?! Allah, the Magnificent says: {See you not that to Allâh prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and Ad-Dawâb (moving living creatures, beasts, etc.), and many of mankind? But there are many (men) on whom the punishment is justified. And whomsoever Allâh disgraces, none can honour him. Verily! Allâh does what He wills}(Al-Hajj:18)
